The Livelihoods and Food Security Technical Assistance II (LIFT II) project strengthens the continuum of care for people living with HIV and other at-risk households by providing technical assistance that connects health sector clients with context-appropriate, market-led economic strengthening, livelihoods and food security (ES/L/FS) opportunities.
Improving access to services
LIFT II improves access to ES/L/FS for clients and families of nutrition assessment, counseling and support (NACS) and clinical health services through referrals and community support activities. To facilitate appropriate referrals, LIFT II links health sector facilities, local government agencies and community-based ES/L/FS support organizations. The result is an enhanced continuum of care.
LIFT II also assists governments, nongovernmental organizations, private sector entities and other partners to design, implement, scale up and sustain the linkages to quality ES/L/FS programs. LIFT II supports new business models and programs and facilitates coordination among existing ones to improve providers’ responses to at-risk populations.
Strengthening community services
LIFT II strengthens the capacity of service providers to integrate and support the program design and implementation of ES/L/FS activities, leading to upgraded services and improved food security among HIV-affected households.
Expanding the evidence base
LIFT II expands the evidence base for ES/L/FS programming impacts on health and nutrition, particularly with regard to retention in care, replicability, implementation at scale, cost-effectiveness and sustainability. The project develops and sets standards, advances knowledge and information sharing, and offers training and capacity-building services to promote best practices around ES/L/FS services.
Providing global technical leadership and strategic support
LIFT II improves the quality of the ES/L/FS programs and activities that support the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), the Global Health Initiative and Feed the Future investments by helping ES/L/FS, nutrition and health providers leverage each other’s efforts to assist NACS clients and other at-risk populations.
