Mali

In Mali, FHI 360 provides targeted technical assistance to the government and local organizations to increase capacity and strengthen health systems, implement quality civic and health programs, and support clinical trials.

Since the 2000s, FHI 360 has partnered with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.S. National Institutes of Health and other agencies to address civil society strengthening, education, agriculture, social behavior change, family planning, water and sanitation, nutrition, emerging and reemerging infectious diseases, neglected tropical diseases, HIV and AIDS, tuberculosis, sexually transmitted infections, and laboratory strengthening.

Currently, FHI 360 continues to build partnerships with both government and nongovernmental organizations to support the consolidation of democratic governance in Mali; the access and linkage to prevention, care and treatment for populations with a high likelihood of exposure to HIV (including vulnerable populations and uniformed services); the reinforcement of the coordination of resilience interventions in the Mopti region; the strengthening of laboratories’ disease detection networks and surveillance systems; and the control of neglected tropical diseases.

The Mali Civic Engagement Program, funded by USAID, focuses on strengthening mechanisms for bottom-up social accountability, increasing citizen satisfaction with public services, and improving the capacity of civil society organizations to collaborate effectively with the government and the private sector on public policies and issues of common interest.

Under the Linkages across the Continuum of HIV Services for Vulnerable Populations Affected by HIV (LINKAGES) project, the FHI 360-led team, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, accelerates the ability of the government and local organizations to plan and implement activities that improve HIV case finding and increase access to and retention in antiretroviral treatment.

FHI 360 also assists the Ministry of Defense in conducting HIV prevention, testing, treatment and support interventions for military personnel, their families and proximate communities and in implementing a secure clinical monitoring system to track clinical outcomes and progress toward epidemic control.
