In Kyrgyzstan, FHI 360 has partnered with the government, the private sector, and civil society and local organizations in finding sustainable solutions to health and development challenges.
Through the Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpiC) project, FHI 360 is providing both strategic technical assistance and direct service delivery to help control the HIV epidemic and promote self-reliance in managing national HIV programs by improving HIV case-finding, prevention and treatment programming, as well as viral-load suppression. In April 2023 EpiC was modified to address a broad range of preparedness and response activities related to global health security. FHI 360 is well-positioned to strengthen the Kyrgyz health systems to effectively prevent, detect and respond to infectious diseases, building on broad experience and existing capabilities that align with global health security priorities, national action plans for health security, and USAID goals.
FHI 360 is also implementing the Active Communities project, which supports the national government and civil society organizations in working together to improve the lives of Kyrgyz citizens. Through community-led civic engagement and support for national initiatives, this project addresses municipal waste management issues and gender-based violence and improves public services and access to justice. It supported the Kyrgyz government in implementing the Program for Development of Local Self-Government (2018–2023) and currently helps the government in carrying out the National Development Strategy (2018–2040), the National Strategy on Gender Equality until 2030, and the Concept of Crime Prevention (2022–2026), focusing on domestic violence.
